The Bangladesh Telecom Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has ordered the Department of Telecommunication (DoT) to ban internet games like PUBG and Free fire.
As reported by The Daily Star Bangladesh High Court has directed the government to shut down all the destructive online games like PUBG and Free Fire and also few other apps for the next three months.
The High Court has referred the apps as destructive and to save children and adolescents from the moral and social degradation caused by this apps.
The court has given a time limit of 10 days to the concerned government authorities to shut down all the apps like PUBG, Free Fire Tiktok, Likee, Bigo Live and to report back if not done as directed.
Contents of Petition
The order was generated after two Supreme Court lawyers – Mohammad Humayun Kabir Pallob and Mohammed Kawsar – submitted a petition on June 24th alleging that games and apps are harmful to youth in the country.
The petition was submitted as public interest litigation on behalf of rights organization Law and Life Foundation. The petition included asking the HC to find the person responsible involved in the crores of transactions and money laundering using such apps.
Request and Views of Petitioners
They also requested the government to form a team of educationists, lawyers, and technologists to recommend the Bangladesh Telecommunication and Regulatory Commission (BTRC) for banning games and apps that are harmful to the youths.
As per the petitioners, the youngsters have become addicted to online games and apps like TikTok, Likee, Bigo Live, PUBG, and Free Fire, and therefore, their social values, education, and culture are being affected.
Department of Telecommunication (DoT)
As reported by NewsOnAir the Vice Chairman of the BTRC Subrata Roy Maitra told the media that the Department of Telecommunication has received the letter regarding the same. In order to fully shut down apps or websites, it will require internet gateways, broadband providers, and mobile operators to take further action.
Even after banning all the apps and websites, those can be accessed using Virtual Private Network (VPN) regarding which further action needs to be taken.

PUBG and Free Fire Ban will have a huge impact on the Mobile ESports industry in Bangladesh. As the Asia and South-Eastern Asia region has shown growth in the gaming field after the introduction of PUBG and Free Fire. There were many tournaments lined up for Bangladesh.
